Brainstorm: Short Story Idea - Crime

The Encounter

She had just finished up with work, wiping down the counter at the bar when she heard the door open. Startled, she looked up and saw a tall man in a trench coat standing there. "We're actually closed right now, sir," she said, tossing the towel aside. The man's deep voice sent a chill down her spine as he replied, "I just want a glass of water." She gestured to a chair in front of her, and he sat down as she poured him a glass. "You work alone?" he inquired, downing the water in one gulp. She hesitated before replying, "Actually, my boss is in the back," knowing full well her boss had left for the night. "Too bad," he remarked. She forced a laugh, feeling uneasy. "I-it is," she stammered nervously. "It's not a good idea to lie, you know," he said casually, causing her eyes to widen in fear. "This won't take long, so just empty the register," he ordered, pulling out a gun and pointing it directly at her forehead.
